Newsletter 18 - Matt's Reflection on 2025

Reflecting on 2025

By Matt Campbell

With the end of the year approaching, Dante and I had been planning the final month of newsletters and as many do, we were discussing a year-in-review style message. For anyone the end of the year can be a time to pause and reflect. Whether reflecting on personal or professional life, recounting the year often highlights memorable events, wins and achievements, but can also include challenges and even losses during that time. 365 days. It’s a lot. But it also flies by. Sometimes it’s hard looking back to capture it all in one snapshot. As we reflected on this particular year we were in disbelief recounting everything, both highs and lows, for us as partners here at Movement Redefined. For sake of this article a quick recap if you missed it:

  • The decision to create this very business
  • Transition from our respective jobs
  • Acquisition and build-out of our space
  • Multiple delays with build-out of said space
  • Formation and launch of Movement Redefined
  • Sudden death of my mom the month we were set to open
  • Dante’s broken collarbone
  • Dante’s son’s compound fractured tibia/ fibula
  • Surgeries
  • A child’s mental health crisis
  • A move

A year ago I was recently remarried, on a high and feeling the excitement about the idea of creating a new business. All hopeful beginnings. From where I was, I never would’ve thought this is how the next year would unfold. Adversity is no respecter of persons though. Things happen regardless of who you are or where you are in life; whether things are going well or not, whether you’re young or old, rich or poor, business owner or employee.

It can be painful. Excruciating at times. No one would choose to experience difficulty, grief and sadness, crisis and despair. However, it happens. And it’s not what those things are but how you grow from it and how it is used. In Celebrate Recovery there is a saying that God never wastes a hurt. The hurt is not the end of the story.

From where I sit now, reflecting on hands down the single hardest year of my life, I am the healthiest and strongest I have ever been, the most grounded I have ever felt, the most confident in my purpose and profession in 23 years, and more driven and focused on why we set out to do what we did in the first place than even this time a year ago.

We felt a calling and we were inspired to do something new and different because of a deeply held belief and a shared passion for helping improve the lives of the people in our community. This year I have definitely experienced unbelievable grief and sadness. But that doesn’t change the mission. It renews it. And furthermore it likely has been my saving grace this year.

I have had to grow in areas I never would have chosen to grow in. I have had to rely on others. I’ve learned to acknowledge my need for help. And when I have asked, I have found it. In suffering I have experienced the comfort and support of community.

And maybe most important is a message for Dante who has been in these trenches with me. In difficulty and tragedy I have experienced a true blessing in his selflessness and leadership and created a partnership that I have never had before in my life. And it has forged a bond of trust and teamwork that I simply would not have known. For that I am forever grateful.

As I wrap up, and in reflection over this year, I want to express a genuine and deeply heartfelt thanks to you, our community, for your support and to my business partner and friend, Dante. I can’t imagine where I’d be this year without you.

What a Year! By Dr. Dante Leone This year has been a rollercoaster. At about this time last year, Matt and I were just in the early stages of starting Movement Redefined. We were excited for what the future might hold, but also terrified of the risks and uncertainty. I thought starting a business would be the hardest challenge of 2025. I'm a doer. I'm very organized and I love getting stuff done. With that comes a level of detail and planning. I try to predict and forecast what might happen...

Making My Comeback By Dr. Dante Leone It's been some tough months for me physically recently. I'm used to moving my body and pushing myself with exercise. The last few years that has included participating in triathlons, which if you're not familiar, is a race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running. However, that all changed on July 5. If you have been a longtime reader of our newsletters, you know that I had an injury that involved fracturing my collarbone that day. You don't realize...

Out of the Park Achievement By Matt Campbell I’m the proudest Dad in the world right now. My 15 year old daughter Mackenzie just hit a HOMERUN. Her first ever. And a real one. Not an in-the-park one. You know the ones from little league where if you just run fast enough or the other team makes enough throwing errors you can get around to home before a play is made. Mac is so fast she has countless numbers of those on her resume. No, I'm talking about the kind that every kid dreams of. The...
