Newsletter 5 - Why You Should Do Hard Things

Do Hard Things — Become the Strongest Version of Yourself

Dr. Dante here.

Let’s talk about something most of us avoid: Doing hard things.

Let’s be real — hard things don’t sound fun. Whether it’s running that extra mile, having a tough conversation, or stepping into the unknown, our instinct is to resist what’s uncomfortable.

But here’s what I’ve learned — and what I want to share with you today:

The hard things? That’s where the transformation happens.

Leaning into difficulty is one of the most powerful ways to grow. It’s how we become more resilient, more confident, and more capable — not just in one area of life, but in all of them.

🔄 Comfort is the Enemy of Growth

Comfort feels good in the short term, but over time, it quietly holds us back. It whispers,

“You’re fine where you are. Don’t risk it. Don’t fail.”

But here’s the paradox:
True confidence and resilience come from doing the hard things — not avoiding them.

Instead of thinking, "What if I fail?," reframe your mind and ask yourself, "What if I succeed!?"

Every time you challenge yourself, you build:

  • Mental toughness
  • Greater adaptability
  • A deeper sense of self-trust
  • The ability to handle whatever life throws your way

The hardest steps often lead to the biggest breakthroughs.

🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ A Personal Story: My Journey with Triathlon

On Sunday, June 8, I’ll be competing in the Jamestown Triathlon:
A 750-meter swim, a 12.5-mile bike ride, and a 5K run.
This will be my fourth triathlon — and I can tell you, it hasn’t been easy.

I didn’t grow up as an endurance athlete. I played team sports like football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. Triathlons weren’t on my radar. But as I became an adult, when the team sports faded, I turned to weight training, running, and high intensity interval training to stay active. I was exercising consistently — but I wasn’t challenging myself.

Then in 2022, a opportunity was presented to try something new.
Matt’s now-wife, Brittany, asked if I’d ever considered doing a triathlon.

I was intrigued. I knew it would be hard. Swimming and biking for exercise were unfamiliar, and the training would demand more from me than I was used to.

But what I didn’t expect was how it would change my mindset — not just in fitness, but in life.

🔥 How Doing Hard Things Changed My Life

Training for triathlons pushed me physically, yes — but the real shift happened mentally.
I started seeking out other challenges:

  • I began improving my clinical and leadership skills.
  • I invested time into learning business — something I never thought I’d do.
  • I surrounded myself with people who challenged me and held me accountable.

Doing hard things helped me grow. It gave me the confidence to stop waiting for the “perfect” system — and instead, create something better.

💡 Why We Started Movement Redefined

That’s how Movement Redefined was born.

We realized the traditional healthcare model wasn’t designed to truly put you first. Time constraints, insurance limitations, cookie-cutter treatment and training plans — it didn’t sit right with us.

So instead of trying to fix a broken system, we chose to build a new one.
A model where:

  • You get our full focus — not distracted by managing multiple patients and clients at once.
  • We treat the whole person, not just isolated injuries.
  • We help you push your limits, just like we push ours.

We do hard things — in the clinic, in training, in business — not because they’re easy, but because they make us better. And when we become better versions of ourselves, we can help you do the same.

👊 Let’s Keep Growing — Together

Growth doesn’t end when you hit a certain age or stage in life. You’re never too old, too out of shape, or too late to start evolving.

So here’s your reminder:
Do something hard. Something that stretches you. Something that scares you a little.
You’ll be amazed who you become on the other side of it.

We’re here to do it with you.

To growth, grit, and going after more —
Dr. Dante

A quote for thought

"Stress and worry tend to be higher before you act. Without action, all you can do is worry. Once you begin, fear shrinks as you start to influence the outcome."

What a Year! By Dr. Dante Leone This year has been a rollercoaster. At about this time last year, Matt and I were just in the early stages of starting Movement Redefined. We were excited for what the future might hold, but also terrified of the risks and uncertainty. I thought starting a business would be the hardest challenge of 2025. I'm a doer. I'm very organized and I love getting stuff done. With that comes a level of detail and planning. I try to predict and forecast what might happen...

Reflecting on 2025 By Matt Campbell With the end of the year approaching, Dante and I had been planning the final month of newsletters and as many do, we were discussing a year-in-review style message. For anyone the end of the year can be a time to pause and reflect. Whether reflecting on personal or professional life, recounting the year often highlights memorable events, wins and achievements, but can also include challenges and even losses during that time. 365 days. It’s a lot. But it...

Making My Comeback By Dr. Dante Leone It's been some tough months for me physically recently. I'm used to moving my body and pushing myself with exercise. The last few years that has included participating in triathlons, which if you're not familiar, is a race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running. However, that all changed on July 5. If you have been a longtime reader of our newsletters, you know that I had an injury that involved fracturing my collarbone that day. You don't realize...
